Two young friends learn from the paleontologist the value of a previous existence. While carefully unearthing a large dinosaur vertebral bone, these three scientists are unaware that the past is looking into the present to view the event. For millions of years these magnificent creatures have been sleeping, waiting for a day such as this one to catch a glimpse into our world. Perhaps these mighty beasts are wondering when they might be discovered and preserved like this recently found specimen.

I wasn’t into dinosaurs like my three boys were when they were young. My wife and I took our boys to Moab Utah when their interest in dinosaurs was at its peak. We walked some trails that led us to areas where they could see and touch fossilized remains from a bygone era. I remember more that we hiked a lot and it was hot, hot, hot and that we saw more lizards than fossils. I was, however, intrigued by the rocky landscape and felt it would be perfect to hide dinosaurs in the stacked rock formations.

Let us not forget our past and realize that there are many creatures that have walked this earth long before us. May we be wise stewards of all that is before us and learn from what is behind us.
